MINSK, 14 January (BelTA) - We need to turn the potential of good relations between Belarus and Türkiye into greater results, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Türkiye Anatoly Glaz told the media, BelTA has learned.
The ambassador emphasized that the development of economic ties with Türkiye is certainly among the top priorities for him in his new position. It is also important to pay attention to maintaining cultural ties and humanitarian contacts.
“Türkiye is a very important player both in the region and in global geopolitics,” Ambassador Anatoly Glaz said. "Türkiye is a most important partner for us (the Belarusian head of state said so).”
Certainly, it is about trade and economic cooperation. But Belarus's relations with Türkiye go beyond this. The relations between the two countries are very diverse and cover various areas from human contacts to education, sport, medicine and others. “Our relations with Türkiye are excellent. But the task is to turn the good potential of these relations into greater results,” Ambassador Anatoly Glaz stressed. "The most important thing is that we have not only good results but a mutual interest to improve them."
According to him, the excellent relations between the leaders of the two countries certainly contribute to the development of cooperation, but literally “half a step” is still needed to make significant progress in this area, the ambassador believes. “We understand that this half-step is also lacking on the other side. I think we will find ways to take a step forward and bring our relations to a new level,” he said.
When asked whether there is a competition between Belarus and Türkiye from the geopolitical point of view, the ambassador stated: “We are definitely not a geopolitical competitor of Türkiye. We are not competing with Türkiye in general. We are lucky, because we are quite complementary both in trade nomenclature and in all other aspects. This gives us room for cooperation and meaningful results."
