Ambassador: China thanks Belarus for support on territorial integrity issues

MINSK, 29 January (BelTA) – China firmly defends its state sovereignty and territorial integrity, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Belarus Zhang Wenchuan said at a meeting with journalists on 29 January, BelTA has learned.

"In response to provocations by forces advocating so‑called Taiwanese independence and to large‑scale U.S. arms deliveries to Taiwan, decisive and effective countermeasures have been taken," the diplomat said.

“Many countries around the world, including Belarus, have publicly expressed support for the efforts of the government of the People’s Republic of China to safeguard national unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and China expresses its gratitude for this. Taiwan’s return to China constitutes a key component of the results of the Second World War and the foundations of the post‑war international order,” Ambassador Zhang Wenchuan stressed.

He also noted: “The One China Principle is a fundamental norm of international relations. The Taiwan issue touches the very core of China’s key interests. Looking to the future, China will continue to follow the path of peaceful development, deepen high‑level openness, provide support, and move forward hand in hand with like‑minded countries such as Belarus on the path of modernization. China will work to strengthen the authority and role of the United Nations, firmly uphold the goals and principles of the UN Charter, and jointly contribute to building a community of common destiny for mankind.”
