Remains of 21 Red Army soldiers reinterred in Vitebsk District
The remains of 21 Red Army soldiers discovered by search teams near the village of Sharki in Vitebsk District, have been ceremoniously reburied at the military cemetery in Kuzmentsy village.
The neighboring villages of Kuzmentsy and Sharki formed a unified combat zone during the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945). This was the site of fierce fighting during the 1944 Vitebsk Offensive, where the 251st Rifle Division engaged in combat. Many of the division’s soldiers and officers fell heroically in battle. Today, search teams continue to recover their remains, personal artifacts, and military decorations from these fields. Each discovery helps to reclaim the identities of these fallen defenders from oblivion.
