Founded in 1005, Kazan is the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. This is a multi-confessional city located on the Volga River along ancient trade routes that connected Europe and Asia. It is a rail-way, road, and aviation hub, and the largest river port on the Volga. Based on historical and architectural significance, Kazan is categorized at the highest level of preservation (along with Moscow and St. Petersburg). Kazan Kremlin is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
