Indonesia boosts air connectivity with 36 global airports

JAKARTA, 29 August (BelTA - ANTARA) - The President Director of InJourney Airports, Mohammad R. Pahlevi, said the designation of 36 airports as international airports is a strategic step that will not only strengthen Indonesia’s aviation ecosystem but also enhance the country’s competitiveness at the regional and global levels.

Pahlevi said PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airports) welcomed the decision to grant international status to 36 airports in Indonesia, which was formalized through Transportation Ministerial Decree No. KM 37 of 2025 on the Designation of International Airports.

“This policy further strengthens the role and position of InJourney Airports within the regional and global aviation ecosystem,” Pahlevi said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday.

According to him, granting international status to these 30 airports will enhance air connectivity and reinforce the role of airports as agents of development and value creators, particularly in ensuring equitable access to international flight services across Indonesia.

InJourney Airports is optimistic that the implementation of this policy will boost passenger traffic and international flights to and from Indonesia.

“This is expected to generate a positive multiplier effect for growth in tourism, industry, trade, and both the national and regional economies,” Pahlevi added.

InJourney Airports Operations Director Agus Haryadi said the company is currently focusing on meeting document, infrastructure, and facility requirements while coordinating with Immigration, Customs, and Quarantine offices to prepare for international flight services.

“The involvement of airlines is also essential to explore and open international routes to the InJourney Airports designated as international airports,” Agus said.

He noted that in 2024 InJourney Airports served 38 million passengers and 224,000 international aircraft movements. Between January and July 2025, the company recorded 23.3 million passengers and 138,000 aircraft movements.

The 30 InJourney Airports granted international status under Transportation Ministerial Decree No. KM 37 of 2025 cover airports across various regions of Indonesia.
