Zhidkov: Belarusian confectionary industry keeps posting record-high output

MINSK, 24 April (BelTA) - For the last two years the confectionery enterprises affiliated with the Belarusian food industry concern Belgospishcheprom have been maintaining the decade’s record-high output of over 89,000 tonnes and high domestic sales, Chairman of Belgospishcheprom Concern Oleg Zhidkov told the media on the sidelines of the 4th international confectioners’ symposium FOOD PROM CONFECTIONERY, BelTA learned.

The confectioners' symposium has brought together more than 250 professionals: managers and specialists of confectionery and bakery enterprises and representatives of suppliers of raw materials, ingredients, equipment and packaging from Belarus and Russia, scientists, retail chains and bloggers. The symposium focuses on promotion, competitiveness, exchange of experience in the application of advanced technologies and innovative scientific developments, popularization of domestic brands and new types of confectionery products.

“The Belarusian confectionery industry is a dynamically developing sector, which in recent years, despite the difficulties and limitations, has shown a steady growth in both the output and sales on the domestic and foreign markets ,” Oleg Zhidkov noted. “Over the past two years, the confectionery enterprises affiliated with Belgospishcheprom have maintained the decade's record-high output of more than 89,000 tonnes and record-high sales on the domestic market. This figure stands at more than 66,000 tonnes for the second consecutive year”.
The business program of the forum is also quite packed: panel discussions highlight rational import substitution and Union State export, lean management, planning and cost management, marketing complexities and building brand loyalty. The participants of the symposium will have a chance to tour the Belarusian confectioneries. The program also incldues an exhibition-presentation and interactive master class on new types of confectionery products.

As for the export of confectionery and the tasks for Belgospishcheprom in this regard, Oleg Zhidkov noted that while working in traditional markets, domestic producers are always looking for new ones. In particular, last year the list of importing countries rose by five: the Philippines, Indonesia, Morocco, Chile and Egypt. Thus, today Belarusian sweets are shipped to more than 40 countries on a systemic basis, with a regular delivery schedule. “We keep working on new contacts and touting our products as high-quality and made of organic ingredients,” Oleg Zhidkov added.
Traditionally, the confectioners' symposium will honor the winners of the Confectionery Olympus tasting competition. The organizers infromed that the winners have already been determined as the jury met at the end of March. Their names will be announced on the margins of FOOD PROM CONFECTIONERY. Producers from Belarus and Russia submitted 121 samples of confectionery products in two main nominations (flour and sugar confectionery) and seven additional nominations, including Import Substitution of the Year, Innovation of the Year, Retail Choice, Organic Label, Specialized Products for Baby Food. Among awards hopefuls are both major state-owned enterprises and private companies.
