
MINSK, 2 September (BelTA) – The nationwide sugar beet harvesting has begun in Belarus, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.
Farms and organizations across the country have actively started harvesting sugar beet, one of the key industrial crops.
The crop is to be harvested from an area of 107,000 hectares. According to current data, harvesting has been completed on 6% of the sown area, or 6,000 hectares. The gross harvest of sugar beet has exceeded 304,000 tonnes.
The average crop yield has reached 476 centners per hectare, significantly exceeding last year’s level by 57.7 centners per hectare.
The harvesting campaign is underway in Brest Oblast, Grodno Oblast, Minsk Oblast and Mogilev Oblast, the key raw material suppliers for the national sugar industry.
