MINSK, 17 May (BelTA) - Belarusian agricultural workers have completed potato planting, BelTA learned from the Agriculture and Food Ministry.
As of 17 May, spring crops were planted on the area of 1,966,900 hectares, which is 88.5% of the plan. Planting was done on 91.6% of the area in Vitebsk Oblast, 76.8% of the area in Gomel Oblast, and 96.1% in Grodno Oblast, 92.2% in Minsk Oblast, and 72.9% in Mogilev Oblast. Planting in Brest Oblast has been completed.
Belarusian agricultural workers continue planting buckwheat (13,900 hectares, or 41.9% of the plan), millet (3,970 hectares, or 41.8%), flax (44,700 hectares, or 99.5%), sugar beet (93,700 hectares, or 95.1%), annual grasses (166,500 hectares, or 62.5%), vegetables (4,550 hectares, or 73.4%). Potatoes were planted on 21,100 hectares, or 102.2% of the target, maize – on 852,800 hectares, 80.1%.
A total of 2,110,200 hectares of soil (95% of the plan) was prepared for sowing spring crops. This year, these crops will be planted on the area of 2,221,900 hectares.
