MINSK, 7 February (BelTA) – Belarus can assist Bashkortostan in upgrading the Ufa tram fleet, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said as he met with the head of the Republic of Bashkortostan of the Russian Federation Radiy Khabirov in Minsk on 7 February, BelTA learned.
"I am grateful to the leadership of Bashkortostan for the constant and genuine interest in cooperation with Belarus. Summarizing the results of 2024, we see the balance in trade, which is one of the most important indicators. We have found the niches in which we successfully complement each other. Today at your meeting with the Belarusian president it was noted that trade suffered a certain decrease. It is certainly not critical, but we need to address it. I very much expect that the joint working group on cooperation will actively engage in addressing this issue and offer the solutions to bring our foreign trade to a proper level," Roman Golovchenko said.

Belarus and Bashkortostan are maintaining a momentum in the bilateral cooperation, coming up with new projects. "Our cooperation relies on the manufacturing sectors. They are very well developed both in Bashkortostan and Belarus. It is good to see that MAZ's project with Ufa Tram and Trolleybus Plant to manufacture Gorozhanin trolleybuses is picking up steam. Earlier it was dozens of units, 60 at most. In 2023 and 2024 it released 238 and 307 trolleybuses respectively. It is gratifying that these products have found their place not only in passenger transportation in Bashkortostan, but also in many other cities of the Russian Federation. We need to take measures for further expansion. I believe that this enterprise has prospects to become the leading manufacturer in the Russian Federation. Joint ventures and new production facilities are a promising track in our cooperation. We hope for your support. Perhaps, we will master a new range of equipment," the prime minister said.
Work is currently underway to build a new MAZ dealership center. A relevant memorandum has been signed, a land plot is being selected and a business model is being developed. "We hope for support of this initiative and appropriate control over its implementation by the government of Bashkortostan," the Belarusian head of government added.

"In general, we made good progress in terms of passenger transportation. I attended a ceremony to hand over new trolleybuses and buses to the regions of Bashkortostan. The drivers were very happy, as they had been working for many years with not-so-new vehicles, and now they have received new, modern ones. This is all thanks to the attention you pay to this important area. Probably, we should also consider modernizing the Ufa tram fleet. We could implement a joint project with Bashkortostan to restore tram cars and install new bodies from Belkommunmash. This project will give an impetus to the manufacturing industries of both Belarus and Bashkortostan," Roman Golovchenko stressed.
Belarus and Bashkortostan pay close attention to joint investment projects. "AMKODOR-Agidel, a manufacturer of grain processing equipment, is up and running. But so far it has not received enough orders to reach the full capacity. We also need to recruit personnel more carefully to ensure the appropriate output. We hope that agricultural workers will support this enterprise by placing orders with it," the prime minister said.

Other Belarusian enterprises also cooperate with Bashkortostan, for example, Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant which produces heavy multi-axle dump trucks, chassis and special-purpose vehicles. Bashkortostan is actively working with the Idel Neftemash enterprise that supplies mobile drilling rigs trailers. The Belarusian side is willing to intensify this cooperation.
"The Belarusian holding company Belavtodor is ready to consider projects to implement them in Bashkortostan. We have successfully implemented such projects in many regions of Russia. The enterprise has a wealth of experience in designing and building roads and bridges," Roman Golovchenko concluded.
