KIROVSK DISTRICT, 29 January (BelTA) – There are plans to move 71,000 calves into modern calf nurseries in Belarus in 2025. The figure was mentioned by Belarusian Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Igor Dorofeichik during a republican offsite seminar-conference held in Kirovsk District, Mogilev Oblast on 29 January to discuss the construction of calf nurseries using light-weight structures, BelTA has learned.
The deputy agriculture and food minister noted that specialists from all over the country flocked to Kirovsk District on 29 January in order to share the best technologies for building modern nurseries for cow calves. Agricultural enterprises of Kirovsk District demonstrated their approaches to the matter. The best practices will be shared by participants from other regions at a plenary session. “The country now has to work out optimal conditions for raising animals, for reducing the workload of calf tenders. Without a doubt it is also necessary to preserve our livestock,” Igor Dorofeichik said. “The preservation of young animals is constantly on the radar, including the head of state’s.”
One of the most important tasks facing the entire industry as a whole is to improve conditions conducive to the preservation of animals, determine financially advantageous and efficient approaches for building calf nurseries.
“It is necessary to build and move under the nursery roof 71,000 head of cattle,” the official noted.
Agriculture represents Belarus’ growth point that ensures the country’s food security and gives opportunities to earn money by selling products. “We’ve set out to increase milk output and daily weight gains. And as the most important thing we need to preserve what we have today. It is our strategic reserve,” the deputy agriculture and food minister stressed.
According to Natalia Sonich, Head of the Central Office for Intensification of Animal Husbandry and Fish Farming of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry, cow calves can handle cold. But to stay healthy, animals need appropriate microclimate. It is also necessary to strictly follow the nurture technology.
Instructions have been given to move young animals to nurseries in Belarus by 1 November.
