MINSK, 26 November (BelTA) – One of the largest investment projects of the next five-year term will be implemented in Minsk Oblast. Belarusian Economy Minister Yuri Chebotar mentioned it at a meeting of Minsk Oblast delegates of the 7th Belarusian People’s Congress, BelTA has learned. Participants of the meeting discussed the draft program on Belarus’ social and economic development in 2026-2030.
Key priorities of the program on Belarus’ social and economic development in 2026-2030 were presented before participants of the meeting. Addressing participants of the meeting, Yuri Chebotar noted that it is based on fundamental principles and strategic reference points formulated by the head of state as well as on analytical researches, opinion polls, and social demands formulated by the population during meetings with government officials. “The president remarked he would like us to draw from the accumulated experience and not to copy provisions of the old program into the new one. He said he wanted a genuine program,” the economy minister stressed. The official added that tasks for the new five-year term need to live up to the society’s expectations.
In his words, as a peculiarity of the outgoing five-year term Belarus has been living under constant pressure stemming from COVID-19 and sanctions-based restrictions. Belarus also had to deal with geopolitical provocations. “The forthcoming five-year term has become a five-year term of quality, a response to modern challenges for our country. Essentially our problems should become growth points for us,” Yuri Chebotar noted.
Seven key priorities for developing the country over the next five years have been identified: national demographic security, the development of the human potential, the creation of a quality and comfortable life environment, efforts to increase the competitive ability, acceleration of technological development and digital transformation, powerful regions, the enhancement of the defensive ability, the realization of the tourism potential.
Explaining the essence of each priority development area, Yuri Chebotar noted, in particular, that the development of the transport infrastructure will continue in Belarus. Close attention will be paid to access to transportation in Minsk’s satellite towns. Resources will also be channeled into building rental housing, including in the regions, in a bid to help resolve the problem of personnel drain. “New standards of comfortable life will be compiled taking into account needs of young people. In particular, I am talking about the beautification of territories, quality of communication, and so on,” the official said.
Speaking about economic development, the economy minister stressed that the implementation of investment projects will be the key tool. Plans have been made to implement a total of over 700 projects all over the country. One of the largest projects will be implemented in Minsk Oblast. “New economy branches will emerge: production of industrial robots, our own piloted aviation, new materials, pharmaceutical products. The production of electric and hybrid cars will be increased. Including in Minsk Oblast. Over five years the share of high-tech manufacturing facilities is supposed to increase up to 8.5% while the export of high-tech goods is supposed to reach 44% of the total volume,” Yuri Chebotar said.
Speaking about prospects of the regions, the official noted that every one of them is destined to become a well-developed territory with unique potential. In particular, an industrial belt of the country’s central region is expected to facilitate the development of Minsk Oblast.
