Opinion: Belarus-Russia regional forum is gathering momentum

MINSK, 13 June (BelTA) - The Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia is gathering momentum in the volume of contracts and in the number of participants, Chairman of the Standing Commission on Regional Policy and Local Self-Government of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Rusy said on the air of the STV TV channel on 12 June, BelTA has learned.

"Relations between regions are the most effective, the fastest. Every year the head of state travels or meets with heads of two or three dozen regions. This means issues are solved, organizational structures are set up to advance cooperation in industry, agriculture, culture, social matters," Mikhail Rusy said.

Soon, in late June, Grodno will host the 9th edition of the Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia. According to the senator, the portfolio of contracts is becoming heavier every year.

“We see dynamism both in the number of agreements and in the volume of contracts. This year, they will approximate more than RUB65 billion, which is Br2.5 billion," Mikhail Rusy said. “The forum will have a record number of participants. They will consider the work across 28 roadmaps. Each of them will receive a more concrete course of development. We have an inter-parliamentary commission, which is headed by two deputy heads of the councils. We will make a proposal to give the commission the rights to monitor the implementation of the decisions taken."
