MINSK, 25 March (BelTA) - Italy shows interest in cooperation with Belarus in milk processing, President of the Italy-Belarus Chamber of Commerce and Industry Angelo Ilardi during the Belarusian-Italian round table at the National Research Center for Food of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, BelTA has learned.
The parties are mulling over joint production of cheese at the Ustye agricultural enterprise of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. “We have brought specialists who are engaged in research in this area. The second topic is mechanization and improvement of the quality of livestock farms,” Angelo Ilardi said stressing that the two countries had the potential to develop cooperation in animal husbandry both scientifically and commercially.
Two meetings of the Belarusian-Italian round table were held in 2024. The parties have already been working in some areas, including genetics, and are aimed at further interaction.
According to Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Piotr Kazakevich, the dairy industry takes a significant share in the country's exports. “Italian dairy products are widely known in the world market. Belarusian scientists are now working on the selection of domestic breed of red cows, which will give milk with high protein and fat content. Such milk is perfect for cheese production. The experience of Italian cheese makers is important for us. Belarusian science is open for broad cooperation in all areas of mutual interest. I am confident that today's meeting will help us work out mutually acceptable options for cooperation,” Piotr Kazakevich said.
In addition to joint cheese production, he sees prospects in research on the impact of climate change on the condition of animals and their productivity. Italian scientists have been working in this area for a long time. This topic is gaining relevance for Belarus, too.
Head of the diplomatic mission of the Italian Embassy in Belarus Tomaso Pietro Marchegiani thanked for the hospitality. “Belarus has demonstrated excellent results. The Scientific and Practical Center for Food, which we had the opportunity to visit today, is a vivid example of this. The industrialists and scientists who came from Italy are very pleased with what they have seen. They got convinced that we speak the same language - the language of modern technologies and modern scientific research. The exchange between partners who are close in terms of development becomes more productive. It is important to maintain this spirit of cooperation. We can mutually enrich each other by sharing the best achievements,” said Tomaso Pietro Marchegiani.
A delegation of representatives of agricultural research centers, higher educational institutions and companies from Italy has come to Minsk to attend the roundtable meeting. During the visit, the Italian delegation is expected to discuss promising areas and mechanisms of joint scientific and technical activities in animal husbandry, milk processing technologies and dairy products production. They are also set to visit organizations of the Department of Agricultural Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
