Libyan trade mission opens in Minsk

MINSK, 21 October (BelTA) – A Libyan diplomatic trade mission has opened in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

Attending the opening ceremony were Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army, Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar and Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich.
Anatoly Linevich, who oversees Belarus-Libya projects in the agro‑industrial sector, commented on the prospects for cooperation between the two countries. “With the opening of the trade house, trade and economic relations between our countries will only improve. They are already quite effective, but now they will develop more dynamically. The [Libyan] delegation has arrived to hold negotiations. This will give a new impetus to the history of relations between our countries. Given the friendship between our peoples, the work will be effective,” he said.

The development of trade relations with Libya, cooperation in the manufacturing industry and agriculture are on the agenda today. “Thanks to the opening of the trade mission, we will be able to communicate directly with Libyan representatives, respond quickly to various situations, and understand where we need to act proactively,” Anatoly Linevich stressed. He noted that Belarus and Libya can be of great use to each other and intend to develop mutually beneficial cooperation. “Our manufacturing industry is very well developed. Libya is interested in our machinery by Gomselmash, MAZ, BelAZ, and other companies, which is competitive. The Libyan side is satisfied with the quality of our equipment. A batch of tractors has already been delivered. They spoke very highly of MTZ machinery, which works excellently in local conditions. In agriculture, bilateral relations will also develop, because there are interesting program projects that we and Libya support.”

He emphasized that entering the Libyan market is a difficult and lengthy process. “We hope to master this market more quickly. People want to work with us. And since there is mutual interest, there must certainly be results,” Anatoly Linevich concluded.
