GOMEL, 29 January (BelTA) – Enterprises and organizations of Gomel Oblast exported goods and services worth $4.2 billion last year, Deputy Chairperson of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee Kseniya Pantyukhova said at a meeting to take stock of the socio-economic development of the region in 2025 and define the tasks for 2026, BelTA has learned.
"Exports of goods and services amounted to $4.2 billion [in 2025]. As for commodity groups, the largest increase in exports was achieved for petroleum products, agricultural and food products, cellulose, and mineral fertilizers. In total, deliveries were made to 67 countries," she said.
"Russia remains the key export destination, accounting for roughly 80% of shipments and showing 100.5% growth. Exports to Kazakhstan surged by 23%, while to China – by 72.8%," Kseniya Pantyukhova stressed.
Last year, exports of services exceeded $400 million with a growth rate of over 120%. The largest increase was achieved in construction services, pipeline transport, and tourism services. Services in education, healthcare, and architecture also showed growth.
"The main objectives for foreign economic activity in 2026 are the growth rate of exports of goods by at least 102%, exports of services by 103%, as well as the diversification of foreign trade, the development of trade and economic ties with promising fast-growing economies of China, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America," the deputy chairperson emphasized.
In 2026, the region will pay special attention to the tourism sector. "The sector holds significant untapped potential for economic growth. By the end of January, the audit of current tourist infrastructure should be finalized, setting clear benchmarks and outlining development priorities. New financial tools are already available to support these efforts. Tourism’s powerful multiplier effect will boost related industries, driving commercialization and increasing the region’s contribution to the gross regional product," Kseniya Pantyukhova said.
