Delegation of Zimbabwean MPs evaluates potential of Belarus’ Hi-Tech Park

MINSK, 19 February (BelTA) – A delegation of the Zimbabwean parliament led by President of the parliament’s Senate Mabel Memory Chinomona visited the Hi-Tech Park. The delegation was made familiar with the potential of the Hi-Tech Park, peculiarities of the Belarusian legal framework for the IT sector, and with products of the resident companies, the Hi-Tech Park press service told BelTA.
The visit by representatives of the African country’s highest legislative body was an important step in the development of the Belarusian-Zimbabwean dialogue and opens up new prospects for the implementation of IT solutions by Belarusian companies on the continent’s rapidly growing market. The negotiations focused on the practical application of high technologies.
The Hi-Tech Park representatives noted that Zimbabwe is interested not just in “beautiful presentations”, but in working tools. This is why the focus was on solutions that deliver fast and measurable results. In particular, these are technologies for the agricultural industry: field monitoring and agricultural management systems. For a country where the agricultural sector is the backbone of the economy, this is not innovation for innovation’s sake, but a matter of food security.
In the field of healthcare it is laser equipment and IT solutions for healthcare. Of particular interest were products covering such sensitive areas as women’s health, veterinary medicine, and epidemiological control. Apart from that, high-tech equipment for the mining industry, IT solutions for marketing, big data processing, and digital promotion attracted interest.
Commenting on the prospects for cooperation, Anna Ryabova, Head of the Secretariat of the HTP Supervisory Board, emphasized the strategic importance of the African direction and expressed readiness for substantive dialogue. “HTP resident companies are really interested in the African vector, and in particular, of course, in our friendly country Zimbabwe. We have analyzed the demand and formed a broad pool of companies that are ready to contact our colleagues with real proposals. These are solutions related to smart cities and digital government, BIM technologies as well as very interesting products in healthcare ranging from women’s health to veterinary medicine and epidemiology. This is why we have a wide range of proposals ready. We are ready for broad cooperation,” she noted.
The meeting with the delegation from Zimbabwe was more than just an exchange of views, the park’s press service emphasized. The parties agreed that within a year the talks will move on to concrete agreements and projects. Now it is necessary to work out the formats of cooperation and adapt the best Belarusian solutions to the tasks of Zimbabwe.

This means that soon the African market may see new cases of Belarusian IT while Hi-Tech Park resident companies may gain another reliable partner in the region, which is now called the continent of the future.
