Cooperation, digital transformation among Belarus’ initiatives in EAEU

MINSK, 16 April (BelTA) - Cooperation, protection of investors' rights, digital transformation, sanitary and epidemiological control are the areas covered by Belarus' initiative proposals for joint work with partners in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Belarusian Deputy Economy Minister Alesya Abramenko said during a round table with representatives of government agencies, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Economy Ministry.

High on the agenda was a review of the first results got as part of the implementation of priorities of Belarus' presidency in the Eurasian Economic Union. According to Alesya Abramenko, Belarus' initiative proposals in a number of key areas were submitted to the EEC in Q1.

“To strengthen cooperation between our economies, it is necessary to intensify the implementation of joint projects and programs, especially in IT, artificial intelligence, electric transport, microelectronics, and robotics,” the deputy economy minister said. “To make these business ideas easier to implement, we continue to work on creating favorable conditions for mutual investments, simplifying administrative procedures and increasing guarantees of protection of investors' rights.”

The next most important area is digital transformation. It includes issues of harmonization of national electronic systems of accounting and control over the movement of goods, provision of national treatment to suppliers from other countries of the Union during the digitization of obligations. Alesya Abramenko added that the major task for this vector is to exclude the emergence of new barriers to business and trade. These issues, according to the Belarusian deputy economy minister, should be on constant monitoring of the EEC.

“We consider it important to strengthen cooperation in sanitary and epidemiological control, to develop a common strategy of action in response to possible epidemiological threats. In the conditions of information counteraction we suggest promoting the theme of Eurasian integration through the state television channels of the EAEU countries,” the deputy economy minister said.

The meeting participants also discussed preparations for the Eurasian Economic Forum, which is due to take place in Minsk on 26-27 June.
