YANGON, 27 November (BelTA) - The Belarusian-Myanmar Business Forum was held in Yangon on 27 November, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian delegation was led by Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov. Addressing the forum participants, he noted that this was already the third such event this year. According to Maxim Ryzhenkov, each forum further increases the mutual interest of representatives from both countries in developing relations.
“This shows in the level and number of participants, and in the new interesting ideas that emerge at our forums. These ideas are worked on and ultimately lead to interesting projects, agreements, and memoranda, which in turn become the basis for boldest initiatives,” the minister said.
Maxim Ryzhenkov emphasized that this rapid pace of cooperation was set by the leaders of Belarus and Myanmar: “The active phase of our cooperation actually began less than a year ago. However, the leaders of our countries see great potential to achieve a great deal. Therefore, we simply must maintain this high standard of engagement and do everything in our power to ensure the active development of cooperation between our countries and peoples."

The minister stressed that the rapprochement between Minsk and Naypyidaw serves the interests of both countries, and that Belarus and Myanmar have much to offer each other. This is further facilitated by the complementary nature of the Belarusian and Myanmar economies. “Myanmar has significant potential in various industrial sectors and we have the expertise and modern technologies in mechanical engineering. Myanmar plans to mechanize its agriculture, and we in Belarus produce a complete line-up of machinery and equipment. As our president says, no topics are off limits for our cooperation,” Maxim Ryzhenkov noted.
He believes that at the current stage, it is important to begin the production of joint high-tech and competitive goods by combining the competencies of Belarus and Myanmar, which would become a practical embodiment of the cooperation between the two countries.
“The potential of our cooperation is enormous. Alongside the agreements already reached and the projects currently in the pipeline, there are many other areas. We are not working on them yet, but we should,” the Belarusian foreign minister noted.
Maxim Ryzhenkov emphasized that the two countries have established the necessary legal framework and the best possible conditions for business of Belarus and Myanmar. “In a very short period of time, we have managed to prepare about 15 intergovernmental and interdepartmental agreements and about 20 solid framework agreements and memoranda in trade and economy. This shows that if we want to achieve high goals, we must set high goals," he added.

During the forum, other major issues that could elevate Belarus-Myanmar relations to a higher level were also discussed. “Agreements were signed in the interbank sector, agreements that will facilitate the logistical movement of goods (with Beltamozhservice logistics operator present here), and agreements on joint assembly manufactures,” Maxim Ryzhenkov said when speaking about some of the documents signed on the sidelines of the forum. He stated that all this provides confidence that Belarus and Myanmar will cooperate on a long-term basis.

During a conversation with journalists, the minister of foreign affairs noted that this is now a “conscious business forum”. “It's not just that businesspeople who want to learn something about Myanmar or Belarus have gathered here. Business representatives who are signing contracts worth about $9 million have come here,” Maxim Ryzhenkov said.
