MINSK, 23 October (BelTA) – The Belarusian automobile manufacturer MAZ has delivered the first Belarusian electric sanitation truck to utility services, BelTA has learned.
In the presence of Belarusian Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Minister Sergei Maslyak MAZ handed over one of the most sophisticated samples of environmentally friendly vehicles – an electric sanitation truck MAZ-GTe – to a Belarusian company, which is the leader in the comprehensive waste management in Minsk and the oblast – ODO City Ecology. The MAZ-GTe truck will be used to service the Minsk World residential estate by transporting secondary material resources.
Sergei Maslyak remarked he was overwhelmed by the feeling of pride upon seeing the truck made by Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ). “This innovative solution has been implemented much better than analogs of Chinese make,” he believes.
The minister could even take the electric sanitation truck for a spin and shared his emotions later on. “I think any kid from the hood would love to drive such a serious vehicle made by MAZ. Now the minister’s dream has come true. The vehicle has soft suspension. It is quite easy to get used to the size of it. The vehicle also boasts a good field of view (practically 360 degrees), convenient handling. All the necessary levers are at hand. Taking into account the approaches towards the development of electric vehicles in our country these vehicles have great prospects,” the official is convinced.
Director General of OAO MAZ, managing company of the holding company BelavtoMAZ Valery Ivankovich stressed that the company had created an innovative product. “It is a new milestone in the development of electric transport. And we are handing over the first electric sanitation truck for trial operation. I am confident that tens and hundreds of them will follow. It may be a global line of work relating to the electrification of transportation. I believe that our project will be a success,” he added.
Director General of ODO City Ecology Sergei Petrosyan thanked MAZ workers and the management for a job well done. He said he hopes that the event represents a small step into a large green future.
The MAZ-GTe boasts a number of technological advantages. It has a 150kW synchronous electric motor. A battery with the storage capacity of over 250kWh provides an estimated driving range of up to 200km. Special attention has been paid to driver safety and comfort. The cab has large windows and an electronic mirror system. Side view and rear view cameras allow for effective maneuvering in confined spaces. The trial period will last for one year. This is sufficient time to evaluate the effectiveness of the new model in real-world conditions, collect technical data, and determine ways to further improve it.
The company has also done a lot of work to achieve the maximum level of localization. All the electrical equipment has been designed and installed by specialists from Minsk Automobile Plant.

It is a bright example of how the manufacturing sector and the state unite for the sake of a common goal: to make the process of sorting waste simple, convenient, and efficient so that everyone could make a contribution of their own to the preservation of the environment and to a better quality of life of citizens,” MAZ’s press service underlined.
