MINSK, 29 October (BelTA) - The Belarusian manufacturing sector is showing an increasing competitive power, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Economy Ministry
“In the past, our country had the reputation of an “assembly shop” of the Soviet Union, and the Belarusians succeeded in preserving and expanding this potential. Manufacturing volumes in Belarus have soared 13 times over the past 30 years. Active introduction of innovations and development of new areas in mechanical building helped the country make a qualitative leap forward,” the ministry said.
The world's largest haul truck with a payload of 450 tonnes is made at BelAZ. Passenger cars, electric trains and electric buses, unmanned haul trucks, gas-fueled harvesters, energy-intensive tractors, harvesters and forwarders are just a part of the list of new products with the “Made in Belarus” mark.
“Thanks to the modernization of enterprises, the contribution of traditional industries - petrochemicals, mineral fertilizers, woodworking and others - has grown significantly. The competitiveness of the manufacturing sector is confirmed by the 53rd position of Belarus in the world rankings among 153 countries on the competitive Industrial Performance Index. Our country is ahead of the CIS countries, except for the Russian Federation,” the ministry said.
