MINSK, 29 July (BelTA) - Belarus is exploring China's advanced technologies for constructing energy-saving greenhouses, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.
During his visit to China, Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Yuri Gorlov met with the president of the China Vegetable Growing Association. The negotiations also involved leading Chinese greenhouse construction companies recommended by the association. Belarusian participants, including Deputy Minister Vladimir Grakun and representatives of local vegetable producers, joined via video link.
“The parties discussed cooperation prospects in vegetable cultivation, particularly regarding the construction of modern energy-efficient greenhouses for year-round vegetable production. Following the talks, they agreed to organize a visit for Chinese companies to Belarus for substantive negotiations with local enterprises,” the press service said.
Yuri Gorlov visited CuiHu Company, which specializes in turnkey design, equipment production, and construction of livestock facilities, greenhouses, and smart agriculture solutions. He toured one of China's fifth-generation automated greenhouses.
According to Yuri Gorlov, Belarus is implementing its National Food Security Doctrine through 2030, which outlines strategic agricultural development areas. The country currently produces about 580,000 tonnes of vegetables annually, including 107,000 tonnes grown on 233 hectares of protected ground, he added.
While Belarus meets domestic demand for cabbage, beets, carrots, and onions, winter production of tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants requires expansion. New energy-efficient greenhouses with automated control systems and mechanized processes are planned to address this need.
“The talks confirmed the parties' strong interest in developing cooperation and creating favorable conditions for introducing modern vegetable cultivation technologies,” the ministry said.
