
MINSK, 22 September (BelTA) – Belarusian farmers have sown winter grain crops on 704,000 hectares, which accounts for 47% of the planned area, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.
Sugar beet has been harvested from 28% of the area, which amounts to 29,000 hectares. The harvest has yielded 1,394,000 tonnes of sugar beet with an average yield of 472 centners per hectare, which is 20.9 centners per hectare higher than last year's figure.
Some 260,000 tonnes of potatoes have already been harvested, with the average yield making up 334.4 centners per hectare, 18.7 centners per hectare above last year.
As of 22 September, some 9,015,000 tonnes of grain, including rapeseed, were cropped in Belarus. The regional breakdown is the following: Minsk Oblast - 2.261 million tonnes, Grodno Oblast – 1.745 million tonnes, Brest Oblast – 1.687 million tonnes, Mogilev Oblast – 1.266 million tonnes, Gomel Oblast – 1.052 million tonnes, Vitebsk Oblast – 1,004,000 tonnes.
Belarus has harvested 99% of areas planted to grain and leguminous crops (maize not taken into account), which makes up 2,399,000 hectares. Average grain yield is 8.2 centners per hectare higher than last year’s level.
Some 670,000 tonnes of food grain have been delivered under the state procurement program, representing 96% of the target.
The yield for processed flax straw stands at 106,000 tonnes, or 45 centners per hectare, an increase of 11.6 tonnes per hectare over last year.
Maize for silage and green fodder has been harvested from 31% of the area, which is 294,000 hectares.
Some 515,000 tonnes of hay (71% of the plan) and 13.485 million tonnes of haylage (97% of the plan) have been prepared so far. Forage production has reached 5.921 million tonnes (59% of the target).
