Belarus, Russia’s Arkhangelsk Oblast discuss priorities for scientific cooperation

MINSK, 12 March (BelTA) – Promising areas of bilateral scientific and technical cooperation were discussed during a working meeting between Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) Aleksei Trukhanov and Minister of Science, Higher Education, and Scientific and Technological Development of Russia’s Arkhangelsk Oblast Aleksei Aksyonov, BelTA learned from the NASB press service.

The meeting also addressed the implementation of joint projects, including those in ecology and environmental management. In particular, the discussion focused on genetic and selective forest reproduction, production of sorbents based on raw materials from peat deposits in Arkhangelsk Oblast, genome modification of plants to increase productivity and improve consumer characteristics, and research into environmental pollution by microplastics.
Attending the meeting also were Oleg Baranov, Academic Secretary of the NASB Department of Biological Sciences, and Sergei Lysenko, Director of the NASB Institute of Environmental Management.

The visit of the Arkhangelsk Oblast delegation to Minsk is taking place on 11-13 March. The program includes visits to the Academy’s permanent exhibition Achievements of Domestic Science for Industry, industrial enterprises, and participation in the 6th meeting of the working group on cooperation between Belarus and Arkhangelsk Oblast.
