Belarus ready to renew Yekaterinburg passenger transport fleet ahead of 2023 Universiade

MINSK, 21 October (BelTA) – Belarus is ready to renew the passenger transport fleet of Yekaterinburg ahead of the 2023 Summer Universiade, Belarus' Deputy Prime Minister Igor Lyashenko said at a meeting of the Belarus-Sverdlovsk Oblast Business Cooperation Council on 21 October, BelTA has learned.

“It has become a tradition that Belarusian equipment is purchased by Russian cities ahead of big sport and other events. We suggest renewing the passenger transport of Yekaterinburg with the help of Belarus as part of the preparations for the 2023 Summer Universiade,” Igor Lyashenko said.

In his words, the best practices of Belarus and other European cities point to good prospects for electric transport development.

According to the vice premier, Belarus played host to the 2nd European Games in 2019. A number of facilities were renovated or built ahead of the event. “We believe it is possible to suggest our experience to prepare the 2023 World Summer Universiade,” he said.

Governor of Sverdlovsk Oblast of Russia Yevgeny Kuivashev supported the idea to set up a joint working group on construction with Belarus. In his words, this will help prepare the facilities for the 2023 Summer Universiade.
