Belarus in favor of equal gas transportation tariffs in EAEU

MINSK, 27 November (BelTA) - Belarus is in favor of a common approach when determining the gas transportation tariffs for consumers in the EAEU common gas market and domestic consumers, Belarus Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich told BelTA.

“When preparing the draft program on the EAEU common gas market we have failed to address one issue, namely the mechanism for calculating tariffs for transportation of natural gas through the territory of the EAEU member states. Belarus laid out its position: the tariffs for gas transportation through the territory of the union for participating countries should not be higher than the rates on domestic markets,” Viktor Karankevich said.

The minister recalled that the same approach should apply to the development of the common markets of electricity, oil and oil products, and railway transport.

According to Viktor Karankevich, the EAEU has been discussing the tariffs for gas transit at the level of experts and energy ministers. This issue will be high on the agenda of the EAEU heads of government meeting in Minsk.

As it was reported, the common gas market in the Eurasian Economic Union must be launched on 1 January 2025. The treaty on the common market is expected to be developed in 2021 and signed in 2022.
