Belarus’ grain harvest past 10.1m tonnes

MINSK, 27 October (BelTA) – Over 10.1 million tonnes of grain, including rapeseed and corn, have been harvested in Belarus so far, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

“As of 27 October, some 10.139 million tonnes of grain, including rapeseed and corn, were cropped in Belarus,” the press service said.

The regional breakdown is the following: Minsk Oblast – 2.505 million tonnes, Brest Oblast – 2.032 million tonnes, Grodno Oblast – 1.972 million tonnes, Mogilev Oblast – 1.325 million tonnes, Gomel Oblast – 1.255 million tonnes, Vitebsk Oblast – 1.050 million tonnes.

Belarus has harvested 93% of areas planted to grain and leguminous crops, including corn, which makes up 2,151,000 hectares. Average grain yield (including corn) is 4.6 centners per hectare higher than last year’s level.

The harvest of flax straw totals 191,000 tonnes, with a yield that is 13 centners per hectare higher than the previous year.

Corn for silage and green fodder has been harvested from 91% of the area, which is 927,000 hectares. So far Belarus has harvested 13.857 million tonnes of haylage (99% of the plan), 18.281 million tonnes of silage (88% of the plan) and 9.229 million tonnes of grass forage units (92% of the plan).

Sugar beet has been harvested from 75% of the area. The harvest has yielded 34.125 million tonnes of sugar beet. The yield is 38.4 centners per hectare higher than last year.

The potato harvest has reached 671,000 tonnes. 

Nationwide, 170,000 tonnes of open-field vegetables have been harvested. The total sown area exceeds 8,000 hectares, with 85% of it cropped now.

Autumn soil tillage has been carried out on 430,000 hectares, representing 30% of the target area of 1.432 million hectares.
