Belarus’ grain harvest exceeds 10.9m tonnes

MINSK, 24 November (BelTA) - Over 10.9 million tonnes of grain, including rapeseed and corn, have been harvested in Belarus so far, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

“As of 24 November, some 10,927,000 tonnes of grain, including rapeseed and corn, were cropped in Belarus. The regional breakdown is the following: Minsk Oblast – 2.717 million tonnes, Brest Oblast – 2.189 million tonnes, Grodno Oblast – 2.161 million tonnes, Gomel Oblast – 1.411 million tonnes, Mogilev Oblast – 1.372 million tonnes, Vitebsk Oblast – 1.075 million tonnes,” the press service said.

Belarus has harvested almost 99% of areas planted to grain and leguminous crops, including corn, which makes up 2,272,000 hectares.

Average grain yield is 43.7 centners per hectare, 5.6 centners per hectare higher than last year’s level.

The harvest of flax straw totals 213,000 tonnes, with a yield that is 12.2 centners per hectare higher than the previous year.


So far Belarus has harvested 14.092 million tonnes of haylage (101% of the plan), 20.057 million tonnes of silage (97% of the plan) and 9.771 million tonnes of grass forage units (over 97% of the plan).

Sugar beet has been harvested from 100% of the area (over 108,000 hectares). The harvest has yielded 5,937,000 tonnes of sugar beet. The yield is 53 centners per hectare higher than last year. Some 84% of the harvested beets have been transported to sugar beet collection points.


Autumn ploughing has been carried out on 1,299,000 hectares, representing 91% of the target area of 1.432 million hectares.
