MINSK, 1 October (BelTA) – Belarus’ Agriculture and Food Ministry hosted the first meeting of the Belarus-Myanmar joint working group on cooperation in agriculture and food on 30 September, the ministry told BelTA.

Attending the meeting were Belarus’ Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food  Ivan Smilgin, heads of structural departments of the Agriculture and Food Ministry, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Vietnam and  Myanmar (non-resident) Vladimir Borovikov, as well as a delegation from Myanmar led by Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr. Tin Htut and representatives of the country’s sectoral agencies.

Cooperation between the two countries is progressing based on a memorandum of understanding signed in March 2025. The meeting discussed key areas of bilateral interaction: certification of Belarusian meat and dairy products, phytosanitary requirements and conditions for accessing the Myanmar market, and prospects for expanding the range of exports.

“The official visit of the Myanmar delegation confirms the high level of dialogue and the interest in strengthening agricultural cooperation. Relations have reached a whole new stage,” Ivan Smilgin emphasized.

Cooperation between the two countries is gaining momentum. This year saw the first deliveries of Belarusian dry dairy products. In January to July 2025, exports of these products to Myanmar increased fourfold year-on-year. The main export items are whole and skimmed milk powder, whey, butter, and cheese. Belarus has proposed expanding the product range to include canned meat (including baby food), infant formula, condensed milk, flour, and pasta.

Belarus also expressed readiness to support the development of Myanmar’s dairy farming sector, including design work, equipment supply, and training of specialists at Belarusian agricultural universities.

Myanmar praised the efficiency and professionalism of Belarusian counterparts, noted the high quality of the products, and expressed interest in further expanding cooperation across all the areas discussed.
