Belarus' construction industry export to Azerbaijan exceeds $3.5m in Q1

MINSK, 27 May (BelTA) – The construction complex of Belarus exported products worth more than $3.5 million to Azerbaijan, Architecture and Construction Minister of Belarus Ruslan Parkhamovich said as he met with a delegation of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture of Azerbaijan. The delegation was led by the committee's chairman Anar Guliyev, BelTA learned from the press service of the Construction and Architecture Ministry.

The parties discussed ways to expand bilateral cooperation and studied the most promising areas for joint projects. “The high level of cooperation between Belarus and Azerbaijan, regular contacts between government bodies, as well as the hard work of the business community allow us to keep strengthening mutually beneficial relations. I am sure that this visit will give another impetus to our long-term cooperation for the prosperity of our peoples,” Ruslan Parkhamovich said welcoming the foreign counterparts.

The minister noted that the first quarter of this year saw meaningful progress in bilateral cooperation. “The construction complex of Belarus shipped products worth more than $3.5 million to the Republic of Azerbaijan, which is 222.5% as against the same period in 2020,” Ruslan Parkhamovich informed. He noted that crystal is one of the most popular Belarusian products supplied to Azerbaijan. Local consumers eagerly buy Belarusian crystal products for everyday use and exclusive crystal products. Neman Glassworks sticks to a country-specific export strategy based on profound knowledge of customer needs in each export destination. For example, the company makes armudu glasses specifically for Azerbaijan (armudu is a kind of drinking glass used for tea in Azerbaijan). In addition to crystal products, the construction industry's major exports to Azerbaijan in January-March 2021 were reinforced concrete and metal structures, equipment and spare parts.

Chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture of Azerbaijan Anar Guliyev is also optimistic about cooperation prospects between the construction complexes of the two countries and about new projects.

The press service of the Architecture and Construction Ministry added that the participants of the meeting focused on comprehensive community development, general plans of modern-type urban and rural settlements in Azerbaijan, as well as mutual supplies of building materials.

The delegation of the Republic of Azerbaijan will stay in Belarus until 28 May. The delegation is to visit cities and agro-towns of Belarus to study the Belarusian expertise and knowledge in urban planning and developing small towns and agro-towns. In addition, the Belarusian side will also show panel housing construction technologies and share the best practices in building information modelling (BIM technologies).
