Azerbaijan interested in Belarus’ machinery, expertise in agriculture, construction

MINSK, 3 October (BelTA) – Belarusian machinery, best practices in the agricultural industry and construction of agro-towns are in demand in Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov said at an extended-participation meeting with Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko on 3 October, BelTA has learned.

“We have made a priority of deepening trade and economic cooperation with Belarus. We have a substantial history of practical cooperation and a very extensive contractual and legal framework with more than 150 documents across almost all segments of international relations,” said Ali Asadov.

He emphasized that the state visit of the president of Belarus to Azerbaijan in May is of particular importance for the country. “The heads of state have  established friendly and businesslike relations, which ensures high dynamics of interaction across the board. During the visit of the president of Belarus to Azerbaijan, a substantial package of documents was signed in order to intensify cooperation in customs, agriculture, tourism, and cooperation between small and medium-sized businesses. The presidents of our countries mapped out a strategic vision for cooperation that governments should follow,” the prime minister of Azerbaijan remarked.

According to him, there are areas that require immediate government attention and action, there are also longer-term programs. Azerbaijan plans to use Belarus’ experience of building agro-towns and developing the agro-industrial complex.

“Cooperation with Belarusian colleagues in mechanical engineering is of particular importance. Belarusian equipment, especially agricultural machinery, is in demand in Azerbaijan. Today, 80% of tractors in our villages are Belarusian. We will promote cooperation in this field. We are also interested in other types of equipment, including special equipment,” Ali Asadov emphasized.
