Belarusian tourists still denied entry to Crimea via Ukraine

MINSK, 17 March (BelTA) – When making plans to travel to Crimea, it is necessary to bear in mind that tourists are still not allowed to enter Crimea if they travel in transit across Ukraine. Dmitry Mironchik, Head of the Information Office, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made the statement on 17 March when asked whether the Ministry intends to advise Belarusians to keep in mind Ukrainian laws while making plans to travel to Crimea just the way it was done with regard to Georgia and Abkhazia in 2009-2010, BelTA has learned.

The official said: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs always advises citizens of the Republic of Belarus as well as travel agencies to bear in mind terms of transit, exit and entry as well as rules of stay of the place they are going to while making plans for recreation and tourism abroad. As far as Crimea is concerned, in 2014 and 2015 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs repeatedly informed Belarusian citizens about the terms specified by Ukrainian laws concerning the entry to Crimea for foreign citizens. We would like to once again tell our citizens that while making plans for travelling to Crimea this year they have to bear in mind that entering the peninsula and leaving it for tourism purposes is not feasible if they travel in transit via mainland Ukraine.”

Dmitry Mironchik also said that if Belarusian citizens enter Ukraine from the Russian Federation, later on they may be denied entry to Ukraine and may face administrative prosecution in accordance with Ukrainian laws.
