Belarus, Russia in talks on cargo transshipment through Russia’s Arkhangelsk port

MINSK, 22 April (BelTA) – Belarus and  Russia are negotiating the terms and the cost of using the Arkhangelsk port for cargo transshipment, Arkhangelsk Oblast Governor Alexander Tsybulsky told reporters following his meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 22 April, BelTA has learned.

The transshipment of Belarusian cargo through the Arkhangelsk port was discussed in detail during the meeting with the Belarusian head of state. “It is equally important for both Arkhangelsk Oblast of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus,” said the governor. “Arkhangelsk has the necessary competences and capacities for transshipment of export goods, primarily along the Northern Sea Route. We offered the capacities of the Arkhangelsk seaport for transshipment of export cargo from Belarus,” he said.

Transshipment tariffs and costs are currently negotiated by interested parties and exporting companies from Belarus and Russia. “I am sure that in the near future Belarusian exporters will get interested in using the Arkhangelsk port,” emphasized Alexander Tsybulsky. Moreover, the Arkhangelsk transport hub project is getting underway following the decision of the Russian government. This project will open up new opportunities for cooperation. Already now, according to the governor, it is possible to transship up to 5 million tonnes of additional cargo through the Arkhangelsk port.
