MINSK, 19 February (BelTA) – Belarusian tennis player Iryna Shymanovich has advanced to the round of 16 at the Oeiras 2 Jamor Indoor tournament in Portugal, with a prize fund of $115,000, BelTA has learned.
In the first round, the Belarusian world No.156 beat Spain’s Nuria Parrizas Dias (world No. 236) in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4). Shymanovich will next face Austria’s Sinja Kraus (world No. 102) for a place in the quarterfinals. In the doubles quarterfinals, Shymanovich and Romanian Irina Bara will take on the Czech tandem of Gabriela Knutson and Viktoria Hruncakova.
In the round of 32 at the tournament in Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh, Belarusian tennis player Yuliya Hatouka (world No. 797) defeated Sweden’s Linea Bajraliu (world No. 835) in three sets, 0-6, 6-2, 6-4. In the second round, the Belarusian will compete against Japan’s Mua Shigeta.
At the start of the men’s tournament in Tunisia’s Monastir, Belarusian Daniil Ostapenkov (world No. 719) defeated Italy’s Luca Castagnola (world No. 674) 7-6 (10-8), 6-1. Ostapenkov’s next opponent will be Leo Borg (592), the son of legendary Swedish tennis player Björn Borg.
