Sabalenka reaches Indian Wells quarterfinals

MINSK, 13 March (BelTA) – World number one Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus rolled into the Indian Wells quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-2 victory against world number 83 Sonay Kartal of the UK, BelTA has learned.

Aryna Sabalenka lost serve just once in 1 hour and 12 minutes to set a quarterfinal match against World No.25 Liudmila Samsonova of Russia.

On the way to the quarterfinals the Belarusian took down world number 48 McCartney Kessler of the USA, 7-6(7-4), 6-3, and put in a clean performance to cruise past Italy's World No.62 Lucia Bronzetti, 6-1, 6-2.

In 2023 Aryna Sabalenka reached the Indian Wells final where she lost to Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina.

In today’s first quarterfinal Indian Wells reigning champion, world number two Iga Swiatek will face China’s World No.9 Zheng Qinwen who beat Belarus’ World No.35 Victoria Azarenka in the second round.
