MINSK, 19 January (BelTA) - World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus rolled into her third straight Australian Open quarterfinal with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Russia’s world number 15 Mirra Andreeva in Melbourne, BelTA has learned.
Aryna Sabalenka will next face Russia’s world number 32 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. En route to the quarterfinal, Aryna Sabalenka defeated World No.81 Sloane Stephens of the United States, Spain’s World No.54 Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, and World No.42 Clara Tauson of Denmark. Aryna Sabalenka won the Australian Open in 2023 and 2024.
Another two-time Australian Open champion, World No.24 Victoria Azarenka of Belarus lost in the opener to Italy’s World No.76 Lucia Bronzetti. Victoria Aazarenka won the event in 2012 and 2013.
The first Grand Slam tournament of the year will be over on 26 January.
