Belarus president’s team defeats Grodno Oblast team in RHL match

MINSK 31 January (BelTA) – The Belarus president’s team won its third match in the Republican Hockey League (RHL), BelTA has learned.

On 31 January, the head of state’s team defeated the Grodno Oblast team, 10-5 (5-2, 1-1, 4-2), at the Olympic Arena in Minsk.

The visiting side started the match aggressively and took an early 2:0 lead within the first six minutes, thanks to precise shots from Dmitry Ambrozheichik and Sergei Yanchenko. This turn of events clearly unsettled the hosts, who responded strongly before the intermission with goals from Pavel Volchek, Konstantin Durnov, Oleg Antonenko, Andrei Kostitsyn, and Nikolai Lukashenko to take a 5-2 lead. In the second period, the teams exchanged goals: Aleksei Shantyka scored for the winning side, while Aleksei Kudryavtsev scored for the Grodno Oblast team. During the final period, the hosts added four more goals against the Grodno Oblast squad, with one scored by Aleksandr Lukashenko.

Maksim Parfeyevets and Aleksei Kudryavtsev were named the best players of the match.
In the opening game of the new season, the president’s team defeated the Mogilev Oblast team 9-3, then drew 5-5 with the Brest Oblast team. The draw was followed by a decisive 12-2 victory over the Gomel Oblast squad. With 7 points, the presidential team now leads the standings.

Last season, the president’s team won the event for the 16th time, defeating the team from Minsk Oblast in the finals. The teams from Gomel Oblast and Minsk Oblast each have one title.

The amateur ice hockey tournament is organized by the Presidential Sports Club, the Sports and Tourism Ministry, and the Minsk City Hall.
