MINSK, 12 September (BelTA) – The international modern pentathlon event Best Athletes Cup, the final stage of the Pavel Lednev Cup, concluded in the Belarusian capital on 12 September, BelTA has learned.

The men’s event featured 35 athletes from Belarus, Russia, and Kazakhstan, with nine Belarusians and nine Russians advancing to the final. After the first three events (swimming, fencing, and laser-run), Yegor Gromadsky from Moscow Oblast team took the lead, with Belarus’ Akim Gnedtchik just nine seconds behind. Maxim Maruk and Vladislav Berezovik shared third place (+22 seconds).

Akim Gnedtchik was in second place for the first half of the laser-run distance, but after the second shooting round, the Belarusian surged ahead. After the third shooting, Yegor Gromadsky regained the lead, and the athletes entered the final lap together. Akim was faster on the final loop, thus securing the gold medal. Russian Kirill Manuilo, who started 14th and was 27 seconds behind the leading trio, finished third.

Maxim Maruk ultimately ended up just off the podium in fourth place. Belarusians Uladzislau Nestsiarau, Uladzislau Berazavik, Ivan Khamtsou, and Mikita Lysenka placed sixth through ninth, respectively. Uladzislau Melkaziorau finished 11th, Nazar Sivitsky 15th, and Yauhen Aryol 16th.
