Belarus’ final medal hope: Speed skater Zueva to compete in Olympic Mass Start 

MINSK, 21 February (BelTA) - Belarusian speed skater Marina Zueva will wrap up her performances at the XXV Winter Olympic Games in Italy today, 21 February, BelTA has learned.

Initially, Zueva competed in the 3000m and 5000m at the Milan Games, but during the Games she received an invitation to compete in the Mass Start. At the two previous Olympics, the Belarusian also competed for medals in this event finishing sixth in PyeongChang 2018 and seventh in Beijing 2022.

The first semifinal featuring Zueva will start at 17.50 Minsk time. Fourteen athletes will compete in the race with top eight advancing to the final. The medal race will begin at 19.15. Earlier in Milan, the Belarusian speed skater finished sixth in the 5000m and 15h in the 3000m.

A total of seven Belarusian athletes competed at the 2026 Games. Freestyle skiers Anna Huskova, Anastasiya Andryianava, and Anna Derugo finished 8th, 16th, and 17th place respectively; figure skater Viktoria Safonova placed 26th and slalom skier Maria Shkanova was 37th. The best result for cross-country skier Hanna Karaliova was 34th in the skiathlon.
