MINSK, 15 August (BelTA) - Belarus has risen to 48th place in the UEFA’s updated club rankings following the conclusion of third qualifying round matches in European competitions, BelTA has learned.
The advancement comes after FC Neman Grodno secured a spot in the UEFA Conference League playoff round, earning Belarus 2.125 points this season, the country's best performance in six years. As a result, four Belarusian clubs will again compete in European tournaments next season.
Neman's achievement marks its first-ever qualification for the playoff stage of a European competition. The team, coached by Igor Kovalevich, now faces Spain's Rayo Vallecano for a place in the group stage of UEFA's third-tier tournament. The first leg will be played on 21 August in Hungary, with the return fixture scheduled for 28 August in Madrid. Rayo Vallecano finished eighth in last season's La Liga and opens its new campaign today with an away match against Girona.
