3rd CIS Games: Belarusian swimmers secure eight medals on day six

MINSK, 1 October (BelTA) - Belarusian swimmers won eight medals on the penultimate day of the pool event at the 3rd CIS Games, which are currently underway in Azerbaijan, BelTA has learned.

On Wednesday, the national team's haul grew by two silver and six bronze medals.

Ksenia Mastovich won two individual medals, taking third place in both the 200m individual medley and the 200m freestyle. Anastasia Vasilenka also became a double bronze medalist on 1 October in individual events, finishing in the top three in the 50m butterfly and the 50m backstroke.

The Belarusian team consisting of Anastasia Vasilenka, Ksenia Mastovich, Valeria Shilko, and Katsiaryna Sakalova clinched silver in the women's 4x100m medley relay. The men's 200m backstroke final yielded two medals at once: Yahor Sakovich finished second, and Kiryl Bantsevich touched in third. Mikita Lyakh secured another bronze in the 50m butterfly. The swimmers' final competition day on 2 October will feature five medal events.

The 3rd CIS Games are underway across seven Azerbaijani cities: Ganja, Yevlakh, Mingachevir, Gabala, Shaki, Goygol, and Khankendi. The international event has brought together over 1,600 athletes under the age of 23 from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Türkiye, Cuba, Kuwait, Pakistan, and Oman. The Belarusian delegation includes 241 athletes competing in 21 sport disciplines.

The program of the multi-sport forum, which lasts until 8 October, includes football, basketball, volleyball, swimming, sambo, boxing, judo, taekwondo, badminton, table tennis, trampoline, archery, shooting (rifle/pistol and shotgun), fencing, wrestling, karate, rowing, canoe sprint, rhythmic gymnastics, and chovgan (equestrian sport).
