2026 Olympic aerials qualification postponed due to weather

MINSK, 17 February (BelTA) – The freestyle aerials qualification for XXV Winter Olympic Games in Italy has been postponed indefinitely, BelTA learned from the press service of the NOC of Belarus.

The start of the women’s qualifying tournament in Livigno was scheduled for 12.45 p.m. Due to weather conditions, the start was delayed four times, but ultimately the organizers decided to postpone the qualification from 17 February to another date. The new time will be announced later. The men’s qualification, which was due to start at 3.30 p.m., has also been canceled for today.

Organizers cited heavy snowfall as the main reason, saying it would be impossible to guarantee emergency medical care if required. Snow-covered roads hamper access even to the local medical post, and helicopters are unable to take off.
Twenty-five freestyle skiers will take part in the women’s qualification, including Belarusians Hanna Huskova, Anna Derugo, and Anastasiya Andryianava. The top six from the first qualification round will go straight to the final. Another six spots in the decisive run will be up for grabs in the second qualifying round.
