‘We detain them in droves at our border.’ Lukashenko warned West about migration crisis back in 2001

MINSK, 19 December (BelTA) - The latest episode of the documentary series Time Chose Us aired by the Belarus 1 TV channel identified the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan as a root of an increase in illegal migration to Europe, BelTA has learned.
In 2001, the US used the 9/11 attacks as a pretext to invade Afghanistan. The first phase was a month-long bombing campaign. It was followed by ground operations to mop up the remaining pockets of resistance. Many people in Afghanistan, having lost their homes and livelihoods, became refugees.
Today, this is almost the key problem in Europe. At that time, Belarus already recorded the growth of illegal migration and warned about the wave-like nature of the problem.

“The path, or even more accurately, the broad road from Afghanistan to Germany and the UK has already been paved. You know, this is illegal migration. You know we detain people in droves at our border with Poland. We deport them back but they go again,” Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he commented on the migration problem.

The lack of political will and the blatantly colonial mode of the collective Europe do not allow addressing the causes of the growing refugee flow.
