MINSK, 21 October (BelTA) – The key task of today’s comprehensive exercise with government agencies is to ensure cohesion and efficiency of actions of civil defense services in any conditions, BelTA learned from State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich during an exercise for republican forces of civil defense.
Aleksandr Volfovich said: “In a modern war facilities of utility services and the power grid are some of the most vulnerable elements and require reliable protection, which largely depends on the successful realization of a complex of defensive measures by all elements of the military organization of the state. This is why the key task of today’s comprehensive exercise with government agencies is to ensure cohesion and efficiency of actions of civil defense services in any conditions.”
The state secretary also noted that in addition to increasing the readiness of officials to respond to various risks and challenges the exercise allows evaluating the system of work of government agencies in the field of civil defense and making appropriate adjustments if necessary. According to Aleksandr Volfovich, work is now in progress to create a united system of protection from peacetime and wartime emergencies for the sake of optimizing the existing systems, improving the efficiency of state administration in the field of civil defense.
“We need to be ready for any eventualities. It can be achieved only through training in conditions that resemble the real situation as much as possible,” the official is convinced.
In his words, as a result of today’s exercise the Emergencies Ministry will evaluate how efficiently various agencies carry out their missions. The procedure for interagency interaction will be adjusted as well.
A large-scale exercise for republican services of civil defense has been organized in a training area of the Emergencies Ministry in Borisov District, Minsk Oblast on 21 October upon instructions of the head of state. The event gathered top executives and officials of the Council of Ministers, the State Secretariat of the Security Council, various ministries and government agencies, municipal authorities. Participants of the exercise practiced the organization of population evacuation and the organization of basic life support for the injured as well as broad range of rescue work and other urgent work, including in conditions of massive malfunctions of utility services and the power grid.
