VITEBSK, 21 February (BelTA) - Maslenitsa festivities in Vitebsk will take place on 21-22 February, BelTA learned from the Vitebsk City Hall.
On 21 February, visitors to the cultural and historical center Vitebsk’s Golden Ring Dvina can expect games, contests, entertainment, sports competitions, a theatrical performance, and concert and dance entertainment programs. Visitors will also be able to see an interactive living history project called The Middle Ages, explore a craft fair by the city’s artisans club From the Hands of a Master, and savor pancakes, mead, and authentic Belarusian cuisine. Visitors eager to learn can join workshops on traditional pancake baking on a log and creating Maslenitsa charm dolls. The festivities will culminate with the burning of the straw effigy at 1:20 pm, drawing to a close at 2:00 pm.
A city festival dedicated to bidding farewell to winter will be held at the Soviet Army Cultural and Recreation Complex on 22 February. Traditionally, the organizers have prepared a wide range of activities, including sports competitions, climbing the Maslenitsa pole, contests, and quizzes.
Young festival-goers won’t get bored either. For them, workshops on baking pancakes, decorating gingerbread cookies, and making Maslenitsa amulets will be held in a special area called the Maslenitsa Workshop. Interactive displays will also be set up by the military, the Emergencies Ministry, the Internal Affairs Department, the historical reenactment club, and the youth theater Koleso. The People’s Museum “History of Zaronovo Region” will present a project titled From the History of Spring Holidays in the Dvina Krai.
Throughout the day, the festive fair will offer sweet pancakes with various fillings. Energetic performances by creative groups from the Vitebsk Culture Center and educational institutions of the regional center will delight everyone. The culmination of the festival will be the burning of the Maslenitsa effigy at 2:00 pm.
