Vehicle registration begins at Belarusian border checkpoints with Poland

BERESTOVITSA DISTRICT, 16 November (BelTA) - Vehicle registration in the electronic queue has begun for passenger cars and trucks at the Brestovitsa (Poland’s Bobrowniki) checkpoint, BelTA has learned.

Ivan Lashchevsky, a driver for a Polish firm, was one of the first to register his heavy-goods vehicle in the queue. “We used to take this route. It was both closer and more convenient for us than going through Brest. I think everything will be sorted out now, and we won’t have these 20–30km lines. We won’t have to live in our trucks like we used to,” the driver said.

A driver for a Minsk-based bus company is heading to Warsaw to pick up a group of tourists. “It has been unpredictable. For instance, we went through Brest, where the wait could be up to three days. It all depended on how many buses were there. I think when the borders open, it will ease the pressure a bit. Now that they're opening one, then a second crossing, it will become much easier,” he explained. “It will be better for the passengers and, of course, for us. A long wait like that is a real ordeal.”

Among those registering is a car driver named Sergei. “I heard about this option through word of mouth. I’m driving to Munich. Last time we went through Brest, and before that, through the Baltics,” he shared.

Registration in the electronic queue has also commenced at the Bruzgi checkpoint on the Belarusian side.

According to an official notification from the Polish side, the closed checkpoints Kuznica Białostocka and Bobrowniki will begin operating at 2:00 am on 17 November.
