MINSK, 5 April (BelTA) – A helmet dating back to the late 9th-early 11th centuries was discovered by construction workers in the Bobruisk river port, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Standing Committee on Education, Culture and Science of the House of Representatives, Doctor of Science [History] Igor Marzalyuk.
According to him, this finding is unique for Belarus. “Such a thing has been found in Belarus for the first time. Similar things were discovered in Ukraine, in burial mounds for warriors – in the famous Black Grave (a burial mound in Chernigov) and in the Shestovitsa village,” Igor Marzalyuk said. An archeological dig will be carried out in the place where the helmet was discovered. Scientists believe the helmet will not be the only unique artifact.
The helmet has preserved well. Its conservation is under discussion now. The finding is to be transferred for specialists for further study.
