Tozik: Family capital program should improve Belarus' demographic situation

BORISOV, 10 December (BelTA) – The family capital program should positively influence the demographic dynamics in Belarus, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Anatoly Tozik told journalists on 10 December, BelTA has learned.

“The family capital program should improve the demographic situation in the country. We badly need to increase the birthrate. Today we are close to the possibility of recording a natural gain in population. But the situation is unstable, and we should convince people to have a second and a third child,” Anatoly Tozik noted.

He added that the amount of the family capital probably could have been larger, but the capabilities of the country should be taken into account. “At this stage we have done our best, but measures of family support are never too many,” Anatoly Tozik believes.

Belarus will introduce additional measures of government support for families with children on 1 January 2015. The Belarusian President signed relevant decree No. 572 on 9 December. In particular, families giving birth to the third and subsequent children will be rewarded with a lump-sum payment of $10,000.
