‘To raise stakes to the maximum’. Panchenko explains Trump's plan for Ukraine

MINSK, 21 January (BelTA) - US President Donald Trump's scenario regarding the conflict in Ukraine is to raise the stakes to the maximum and force Russia to make concessions, Ukrainian journalist Diana Panchenko said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“On the eve of the war in Ukraine, hardly half a percent of Ukrainians, I think, believed the war was coming. I think there were only a few of them. In general, it is the nature of human beings to hope for the best. It is normal. We all want to live in peace. War is the most terrible thing that can happen to a person and to a country. I wish from the bottom of my heart that Belarus never experiences what Ukraine has gone through,” Diana Panchenko said.

The Ukrainian journalist said that she is not optimistic about peace prospects. “You know we live in very interesting and turbulent times and any scenario is possible,” she stressed.

Diana Panchenko noted that the situation is quite complex, the world is in flux. Trump publicly lays claims, for example, on Greenland, Canada, and so on. “No one is shy about saying out loud what we talked about with your colleagues a while back in our videos. In the video ‘Trump’s Aggressive Peace Plan’ I talked about Trump's scenario. He is going to raise the stakes to the max: either you negotiate or I provide even more weapons to Ukraine and toughen up sanctions against Russia,” she said.

According to the journalist, it is pretty much Trump’s style of politics. “For peace to happen all sides must be interested in it. Are US citizens interested in peace? Yes. Are citizens of Ukraine interested in peace? Are citizens of Russia interested in peace? Yes, of course they are. Who is currently most disinterested in peace? The answer is quite obvious. Always look at who benefits. Who is still president today, despite the fact that his term of office has expired? Who is currently making money from the war and has become one of the richest people in the world? It’s Mr Zelensky, unfortunately,” Diana Panchenko noted.
