MINSK, 25 June (BelTA) – All attacks on Belarus will be met with tough response, Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko said at the closing of the fifth session of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the seventh convocation on 25 June, BelTA has learned.
“Of course, we will continue responding to all hostile actions against Belarus in a harsh way. But this does not mean that we are not open for an equal and respectful dialogue with European partners. Moreover, there are many politicians in old Europe who are fully aware of the futility and danger of attempts to bring Belarus to its knees. But in today's setting, we should be more active in other areas and markets. We have a huge potential for cooperation with the CIS countries and we should take advantage of the upcoming events of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly to make the most of this potential. Cooperation between Belarus and Africa, Latin America and Asia is making good progress. The MPs should step up their work in this direction and facilitate the implementation of interstate and intergovernmental agreements and promote interstate contacts,” the speaker said.
“Of course, Russia and China are our cooperation priorities. These superpowers are striving to strengthen alliances with us. A testimony to that are the results of the 60th session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia and the agenda of the meeting of senior members of the Belarusian parliament with Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China Li Zhanshu. We are grateful to Russia and China for their principled position to support the Republic of Belarus in the international arena and their determination to expand strategic cooperation. The consistent implementation of cooperation proposals is becoming a priority task for us,” Vladimir Andreichenko said.
Members of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly should focus on strengthening the defense capacity of the member countries, which is seen as a guarantee of maintaining their sovereignty and security. “Regional security and protection of national interests should also remain high on the agenda of the Belarusian delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. It is necessary to use its upcoming session as an opportunity to clearly convey to the international community objective information about the situation in the country, possible repercussions of the policy of coercion and sanctions not only for Belarus, but also Europe as a whole. In the same way we need to prepare for the Fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament to be held in Austria in autumn,” Vladimir Andreichenko said.
