South African MP: Election in Belarus was absolutely transparent, democratic

MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) - The president election in Belarus was absolutely transparent and democratic, said Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces of the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa, member of the Pan-African Parliament Refilwe Maria Mtsweni-Tsipane who took part in the international monitoring of the presidential election, BelTA learned.

During the election observation the PAP delegation visited the polling stations and was present during the vote count.

“We saw the smiles of people, their warm attitude. We saw the behavior of your country's leadership. We saw that no one was forced to vote, no one was pressured. The election was absolutely transparent and democratic. Everyone was given the opportunity to express their will, to vote,” Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane said.

On the whole, the visit of the African delegation, according to her, was not just productive. Parliamentarians from African countries were able to get acquainted with Belarus more closely and learn a lot about the country. “Our mission represents the Pan-African Parliament, and in this way we represent the entire African continent. From the first minute of our stay in Belarus, we were amazed by the warm welcome we received on your hospitable land,” the member of the Pan-African Parliament said.
“We would like to wish the people and leadership of Belarus all the best. We would like to wish your country to spread its wings. As the newly elected president of your country said, Belarus is a friend to Africa. And we are friends to Belarus,” Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane emphasized. “I wish us all a long friendship”.
